Suggested Other Types of Contradiction in Scripture Are Refuted
Scholars speak of numerous errors in the Masoretic Text, and those who follow such thinking believe there are various examples of numbers discord. As in cases involving the amplification concept discussed on the present website, there are various cases of apparent discord involving factors that prove there really is no actual discord, and we include here a few of the more notable cases in which supposed numbers discord is easily refuted by simple contextual logic.
We deal with Nehemiah 7:66 and Ezra
2:64 where the numbers of Hebrews returning from Babylonian Captivity
are noted somewhat differently in the two books. We also deal with the reason that King Saul fails to recognize David in 1 Samuel 16:14-23 a matter that seems odd since David has previously played a musical instrument to minister to Saul. Further, we deal with the role of marginal notes in the Hebrew text that modern scholars think are corrections of errors. Finally, we deal with the matter of the size of Nineveh in Jonah's day, a topic producing much silliness in the reasoning of modern textual critics & translators.
